waiting on a Vietnamese sammich
I broght my lunch today, but its not pork. and pork chops taste, good and bacon taste good. and so do roast sliced pork Vietnamese sammiches with hot peppers.
Doubles (chick pea curry between two split pea flour patties) and puhlori (fried balls of split pea flour dipped in peppery tamarind sauce) from the West Indian restaurant right beside the West Indian grocery on Danforth at Dawes Road.
Though he has been a recording artist since 1988, Juba Kalamka (aka Pointfivefag) is most recognized for his more recent work as a founding member of “homo-hop” crew Deep Dickollective (D/DC) and the creation of the label Sugartruck Recordings.
A former member of groundbreaking queer hip-hop group Rainbow Flava and staff writer/illustrator for the bisexual issues magazine _Anything That Moves_, his most recent accomplishments include serving as Festival Director for East Bay Pride 2003 curation of the accompanying PeaceOUT World HomoHop Festival (now in its 5th year), and appearances in several adult films and videos. Noted for his dialogues on the convergences and conflicts of race, identity,sexuality and class in hip hop culture,he has served as a curator and panelist for numerous organizations and national conferences including The San Francisco Black Gay/Lesbian Film Festival, GLAAD, Hip Hop As A Movement @ The University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Burning Closets @ Oberlin College.
He is currently an MFA candidate in the Poetics and Queer Performance programs at the New College Of California in San Francisco.
