SWAS post 5: Late and catching up/Down south and East Coast

Since the last posting:

2/22 New Orleans, LA Zeitgeist Gallery
2/24 Atlanta, GA Eyedrum Gallery
2/25 Huntsville, AL Flying Monkey Arts
2/26 Asheville, NC University of North Carolina - Asheville
2/27 Williamsburg, VA The College of William and Mary
2/28 Baltimore, MD The Patterson Theatre
3/01 Swarthmore, PA Swarthmore College

Hey all!
thanks for your support and patience with me... Its been a lot harder
posting in a timely fashion , and I'm gonna have to relent and get an Ibook or something
soon....anyways...the shows have been going GREAT , capacity audiences at both clubs and colleges,
everybody really glad to see us everywhere. The tour hasn't come without its bumps, most notably censorship
issues at UNC-Asheville and a particularly crazy combination of that and a conflict with a frighteningly reactionary and misogynist
faculty member at William and Mary who managed to get the show DE-FUNDED, after which the students org hosting us did
two fundraisers and got the show back on track. BIG UPS and kudos to the amazing groups of students we met at both schools
who worked so hard to make sure the shows happened.
In earlier craziness, we had some great times in Atlanta and Huntsville as well. Huntsville, to my surprise, was the most rabid happy
crazy excited audience I've EVER performed for, as a group or solo act...just nuts...and the Flying Monkey Arts folks made us feel hella at home
by breaking out the crazy full course country dinner spread , sweet tea and THREE kinds of moonshine,
plus -jyeah_BANANA PUDDING!!!
Just badass, I say.
and on the crazy tip, copy and paste this link to the Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Faamily Association's
website, complaing about our Swarthmore College and Bucknell U. Shows:
http://www.afaofpa.org/news_release_swarthmore_bucknell_2.28.06.htm
Fingertip on the pulse of Amurrkan consciousness.
Mo' mabye later this afternoon from the Hilton's sweet-ass biz suite..and breakfast.
till then, thanks a bunch, and seeya in yo city in yo town.:)

SWAS Post #3:UCLA/UC-Santa Barbara/UC San Diego/Alwun House,Phoenix AZ

so unfortunately I haven't been able to post updates as quickly as I would like...this is my firts real sit down with a computer in a few days...that isnt wholly bad. been busy and having fun the shows have been great, and I'm out here with a continually amazing group of performers and road crew ( who we couldnt do this shit without, I tell you. they are so bad ass!)

tonight we perform at a Santa Fe NM spot called backroads- the tour has been there before, and they are a great, happy and enthusiastic bunch, I'm told. I had a kind of funk afternoon after a late night. Going into New mexico, the altitude changed and the air got thin and I thought I was having an asthma attack..it turns out the air was just thinning out a bit. I bought Primatene before I left ( which I have never used before ever) as I thought it would be useful to someone. Didnt think it would be me. Gotta have air to sing. My throat, which was kind of rough is doing great with drinking honey lemon...but I hadnt planned to deal with the breathing stuff. Itll be ok though.

We have an off day tomorrow, and we aare at The UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS afterwards, so be on the lookout for more news. sooner. I promise.

love

SWAS Post #1: Reed Colleg, Portland Oregon

So I'm sitting in a little teahouse in downtown Olympia the morning after our firts show at Reed College in Olympia, and feeling pretty acomplished. After a bumpy dress rehearsal on the 9th, we worked out some tech and staging bugs and everyone did really great sets. The Reed students (all 250 of them, literally in the rafters) were great...responsive , really feeling it.

I ended up closing the show, which was something I was concerned about doing given the potential for implicitly colonizing the space with my body ( I'm the only guy in the tour set). I'm really trying to be carefull about respecting that space. The energy and flow of the show, as well as the structure of our sets really worked with me going last ("Yeoman Johnson" kind of works to a cresendo anyway, but I was surprised at the energy and the nature of the response.)

I'll be posting here intermittently about interseting happenings, but be on the lookout for a post for ecah and every show ( New College is allowing me to use this tour as my MFA practicum, so I'm doing a ton of writing about technical and performance stuff, some of which I'll be incorporating here.)

will holla back later, and hope to see you in your city.
